Conquering Procrastination

Hello everyone,

While pondering the prompts, I think about my biggest challenges as a student and they are clear to me, procrastination and time management. As a mother of two young children, my life is busy without adding school into the mix. The hardest part for me is setting aside the time away from my family and doing homework. On the weekends I like to spend that time with my husband and our kids and do something together. I almost feel guilty because I am so busy, so I feel like I at least owe them my time on the weekends. Through my academic journey I have noticed that I most often wait until close to a deadline to sit down and crunch out a paper or study for a test.

My plan at the beginning of each semester that I start I always tell myself that I will work on procrastination and time management this semester and conquer it. Thus far, I haven’t been able to conquer it. J So yet again, my plan this semester and this part of my education is to become better at setting aside time to do my readings and homework, and still make time to play with my kids.

I believe that I am in the driver seat when it comes to my education. If I had gone to college after high school I wouldn’t feel like I was in control, but now that I am older and have a grasp on reality I can take charge of my educational journey. I feel more in control because I know what my goal is now.

I feel that I will contribute to this online learning community by keeping an open mind, being a good listener, and helping anyone along the way if they need it.

Native and I know It

Hello everyone,
My name is Natalie and I am so new to the whole blog world. I live in Northern California on a small Indian Reservation. I am a proud Native American, enrolled Hoopa tribal member, and also a descendent of the Yurok and Tolowa tribes.
My life revolves around family, I am happily married to my husband, Brandon. We have two children, our son Mark (6), and daughter Peyton (3). I am the eldest child of five, and I am constantly running them around. Lol.
I decided to jump in social work after HSU closed down the nursing program. I have always wanted to work in a field where I can help people.
Growing up on the rez, there is apparent poverty and substance abuse issues, this is what gives me the drive to make it through the program so I can return to work for my tribe and start helping people in need.
I hope to get know all of you through our journey!!!
